Dear Evan Hansen, after opening off-Broadway earlier this year, opens at the Belasco Teatre on Broadway in November. It has been nominated for or has won the Helen Hayes Awards, Outer Critic Circle Awards, Office Broadway Alliance Awards, Drama League Awards, and Drama Desk Awards. Ben Platt, whose family donated the Platt Student Performing Arts House at Penn, plays the lead role of Evan Hansen, a socially awkward high school student who attempts to help a family struggling with their son’s suicide by pretending that he was their son’s friend.
